Royal Lochnagar was founded in 1845 and is one of the Highland distilleries most closely associated with the British royal connection, following Queen Victoria’s visit in the nineteenth century. Selected Reserve was introduced in 1988 and was presented as a prestige-level expression, intended to stand among the more elevated single malts of its time.

This bottling is especially known for its luxurious presentation, including the wooden case and booklet, and it is now regarded as one of the notable early versions of the Selected Reserve line. Public market listings identify examples like this as late-1980s bottlings, and it is often described as a richly sherried and elegant old-style Highland malt. In your bottle’s case, the raised lettering on the capsule also adds to the impression of an early presentation version.
